I'll soon be heading down to the following areas:

Peru: Cuscon, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu
Argentina: Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls
Brazil: Rio de Janeiro.

Any places where it is definitely a not to miss? Any restaurant, show or wine suggestions? I won't have a chance to go to the Mendoza area this time though which is too bad,....

TheEngineer,

I've got you covered for Iguazu and BA. Will consult my wife tonight and post up. Too bad you are going to miss Mendoza. I could totally hook you up there! If you have the ability and the urge to splurge, try to find the 05 Cobo, or 05 Pulenta Estate Cabernet Franc. Both are vino-insane-good!

I've been interested in Machu Picchu since elementary school. My sixth-grade teacher was married to a dentist and was well traveled. She brought slides of Machu Picchu and I was hooked.

Well worth the trip. I took the flight from Iguazu to BA, then to Mendoza. Mendoza is so nice and the people are very friendly. The best part is your buck will take you far! Do not do the wine tour as you can use taxis to do it and you'll get treated just as nice. A couple places to visit:

Achaval Ferrer - Not friendly, but still nice
Tempus Alba - Tell Christian I said hello
Pulenta Estate (not Carlos Pulenta)
Ruca Malen - Ask for Ricardo
Finca Decero - killer cab for the price

Salta is not going to unless you are dedicated. Its a three hour drive...
