Flying Fish Merlot

I was not sure where to post this so here goes.

I asked for red wine on a domestic Continental Airlines flight. Their standard is Flying Fish merlot, 187ml, $5 - no other option. I forget the vintage but it is not so important.

What a terrible, terrible wine. I was in coach and this was their only choice, so very much a captive market. I had a sip and threw the rest out. Why do they do that? For $5 for 187ml, surely there is better wine out there? As a matter of fact, there is better wine at $5 for 750ml. Continental would probably sell more of it if it was drinkable.

I hope we have better choices than that on my flight to Provence in July. We are flying on Delta Airlines so I would have more hope if it were Air France or Sabena or Alitalia.

Or British Airways or El Al or (my fav) Lufthansa. Even had pretty decent wines on an Ethiopian Airlines flight in the Med years ago. Our domestic carriers just don't get it.

That is why I generally don't drink on planes. There is almost no choice and it generally is not a great one. I mentioned that I had a 187 ml Gallo Merlot on my last flight as that has been the best on my recent us flights. Air Canada has at least two choices and they are at least drinkable. Other domestic carriers are not really caring as they can earn pretty much everything they can. Also the wines are generally served too warm even for a red.... Nice vent Thraz. I guess I could have posted on this sooner as I'm on a plane every other day....but have become so immune to it that it does not even register.

Now overseas flights are entirely different but budget cuts have done their fair share in decimating the selections, though they tend to be better.
