New Job

This is a rave, not a rant. I just got a part time job(twice a week) working at my favorite wine store http://www.princetoncorkscrew.com/

This place is constantly kept at 56 degrees, and only carries wines from small, family-owned wineries. I am so excited to have this "hobby job" to learn more about (and taste a great amount of) wine.

Friday is my first day, wish me luck.

Ah yes, that employee discount is a wonderful thing.

Forgot to add, I picked up a 14 yr. old Rosebank by Gordon & MacPhail yesterday for $31 - retail is $65.

Kudos to you. Along with home winemaking, that is exactly how I got started in the wine business--I worked in a shop in the evenings and on Saturdays so that i could have access to more wine plus learn the trade, and the consumer.

The owner of the shop and I used to sit in the backroom after closing to go throught the latest potential buys--it was a true learning experience for me, especially the time I delivered cases of beer (New Jersey) to some underage kids whose parents were away. The parents found out, contacted the store and I got reamed for not taking i.d.

As hot and humid as this classroom has been for the past few days, 56 degrees sounds just wonderful! Not too mention what a nice cool glass of white wine would do for my morale!

Simply put, I like here. A lot. They are making efforts to get me up to speed on product knowledge(tastings) and I get to buy wines at cost now. I am really going to learn so much here, especailly about French wines, which seem to make up about 60% or more of our inventory.

I'll post tasting notes soon on the wines I'll be tasting, whoo hoo!
