Gazpacho Pairing?

Hi,
I'm new to this board, and my wine knowledge is minimal. I'm hoping someone will answer my question about what to drink with gazpacho - we'll be serving garlic crostini, shrimp (grilled w/ a little oil/garlic), and possibly scallops.
I was thinking a sparkling wine (budget won't allow champagne!), or maybe a Chardonnay or Pinot Gris? We were thinking of something Spanish, but it doesn't *have* to be...
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Well, I've tried at least a dozen different gazpacho recipes because it's one of my favorite easy to make dishes for hot summer evenings. Call me a heretic, but the wine I've found that seems to go the best with gazpacho is Zinfandel (red, of course). The accent in gazpacho is on the tomatoes and peppers, and the spicy fruitiness of a nice Zin just goes so well with that combo. You could also try a tempranillo or garnacha based wine from Spain, maybe a Tres Picos.

Great -- that was actually my first choice, but I had heard that the wine would need to be acidic to stand up to the tomatoes in the soup. We love Zins (especially in the summer), so I'm taking your adivce and giving it a try. Thanks, Kcwhippet!

I wonder how it went. My wife and I had gazpacho last night--paired it with a Refosco; splendid match.

The Refosco (a Friulian wine) is of dark cherry quality, with a good acidic backbone.
