My wife and I are planning our first vacation after our move to Germany in August. Vacation will be in Italy for one week sometime in Sept or early Oct. We are impressed with what we have seen in agritourismos, using www.agritourismo.net

Anyone have experience over there with a specific place to recommend. We definitely want to restrict ourselves to major wine regions. We have something quiet and low-key in mind.

Other tips?

Florence and Siena are worth a visit. Wine country should be abundant outside the confines of the cities. I haven't been there recently enough to provide specific recommendations. Verona is also of interest and is in the Veneto region.

It has been a long time for us too. We travelled in the Veneto and not Tuscany. From what we've heard one thing is still the same, very few of the wines you will encounter are imported to the U.S. of any other countries for that matter. And it is hard to fine a bad local wine. As we've recommended to other visitors to Italy when the food calls for red wine, say Rosso; and when it calls for white wine, say Bianco.

If you don't mind our asking, where in Germany are you moving, and what will you be doing?

Thanks for the advice. My wife and I will be staying in a small town called Oberursel outside of Frankfurt. I will be studying at the Lutherische Theologische Hochschule for one year before heading back to the states.

I was just about to book a vacation in Italy when we decided to hold off. We want to get settled in Germany first. There is too much uncertainty about our first two months there at this point (travel dates, paperwork, language courses). If a good last-minute vacation deal pops up, we'll jump on it. Otherwise, Italy will have to wait until next Summer.
