I had my first screw top wine (okay, in the last third of a century). It was a Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc from NZ, and it was a very satisfactory experience.

I understand that many NZ wineries are going to the screw top. Since the last corked wine that I had was a Brancott SB, I believe that this is a fine thing.

My Friday the 13th horror story post in this forum should let you know how I feel about the new experimentation with screw caps. I was especially happy to hear Bonny Doon moving in that direction with a few big lines. I hope others start trying it, too!

I also had the experience of seeing the new Villa Maria bottles with the screw top. They are nice, for the fact that the wine won't be corked but my boss won't allow them in the restaurant.. I guess it's time to order a new Sauv. Blanc to pour by the glass.
