Somehow eluding National attention, we had a very severe storm come through here on Wednesday. It was the same one that contributed to the accident on the Staten Island Ferry. Incidentally we take that boat everytime we visit the Apple, as we stay at the Navy Lodge on Staten Island.

Anyhow, it was quite a blow. Dumped 1 1/2 inches of rain, but much worse was the wind that had gusts up to 60 mph. We were very fortunate. We lost powa for six hours, and a five inch thick limb off our disease resistant (but not wind resistant) elm tree. It did no damage. Others were not so fortunate. I saw one limb come off an ancient oak tree that was as big around as a bison. Our landscapers who came around today to clean up our tree, said that people within a mile of his place still did not have powa, and that there was a real mess down in Rockport where limbs had fallen on cars, garages, and other things. The governor declared a state of emergency.

I guess being here on the edge of the Nation gets little attention.

No state of emergency down here, but we got the really high winds and a fair amount of rain. Gusts up to 50 mph knocked out power to a few places around, but not us. I haven't seen anywhere near the damage you got, IK. It sounds like a good excuse to open up another bottle.

I almost got out my ruby slippers myself, IK! We had some wicked wind, but not much rain. Glad all is OK with you. That loss of power stufff is a real pain.

Glad you survived IK, we lost power for 16 hours...no trees or limbs down though, had enough of that.
