Have been awaiting the opening of a new wine shop only a mile from home. Banner over the door has acclaimed "Coming Soon" for six months; finally, it opened this week. Visited yesterday and found the following:

"Neonato" for $11.XX
Becker "Texas Iconoclast" CS for $14.XX
Messinahof (simulated) Port for $22.XX
Clicquot yellow label Champagne for $44.XX (no other sparklers were of any interest at all)

All wines were run-of-the-mill, with no stand-outs in evidence. And all were at least 40% more than I'm accustomed to paying at Costco or discounters.

I muttered "Interesting" as I walked out the door, with no intention of ever returning.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!? Hotsie, you've GOT to call us if you like bubbly. Hell, I'll eat the shipping on the first order just so you can recover from the shock of seeing that....We can get you Turgy Grand Cru Reserve les Mesnil Blanc de Blancs with 20 vintages of reserve wines in it for $31.00.

Roberto

I'm not interested in Cliqcuot these days at any price; favoring Taittinger NV Brut, running about $22. The $44 for Clicquot is the same price as charged at the supermarket a quarter mile from the new wine shop, but Costco is offering it these days at $31.
