I have just recovered from the longest laughing fit in the history of mankind...

Whenever your in a bookshop, please look for 'The Metrosexual Guide to Style: A Handbook for the modern man' by Michael Flocker Published by Da Capo Press

Go to chapter 2 and read what he describes as 'the way to deal with wine'

One quote - he desribes the best Zinfandels come from Australia or Italy.... I rest my case

I don't know about Zinfandel in Australia, but does he mention Primitivo in Italy, which is related to Zinfandel by way of DNA.

Incidentally, do you have access to a fair amount of American wine at your shop?

The Primitivo of Italy and the Zinfandel of the U.S. are indeed the same grape, descendants of an obscure Croatian variety. I've heard of side by side plantings of both grapes and, while they are the same grape, they've diversified by virtue of their many years of being separated. The Primitivo has slightly smaller berries and ripens a bit earlier than Zinfandel. The wine made from the Primitivo in the side by side vineyard produces a wine that's said to be like the Zin, but on steroids.

In your old shop--gee at 22 you are blazing a trail. Better watch out, the British Isles aren't that big you know. You might have to venture cross the pond...

Is there a legal drinking age in Britain?

It was 18 in NYState when I grew up--which meant of course that I could get wine at 16, with a good forged draft card...

IK, in Brooklyn, who drove???

Speaking of forging proof. I grew up with someone who shared my birthday--15 minutes apart. Once, on Long Island in fact, he, another friend and I went to a singles club. It was days after my birthday mate and I had turned 18. The other fellow was 17. So we managed to forge one of our draft cards for him.

At the door, I show my draft card and the guy let's me by; the 17 year-old shows his, and the guy looks at me, looks at his card, notices the same birth date, but let's him go by; when the third draft card shows up with the exact birth date on it, the guy threw the three of us out!

I've bought a forged card that shows my birth-date as 03-10-60. Should have made it 70. WW
