2002 Secco Valpolicella

Had a glass for $7.00 (bottle price was $25.00) at a new Italian bistro in town. This retails for $15 or less so the price per glass was quite high but this would be a decent QPR for home consumption.

I'm not certain if this is the Valpolicella
Valpantena I see when I google. If so, the composition is about 70% Corvina grape, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara.

Crimson color--not opaque. Medium body.
Cherry and a bit of earth on the nose. Ripe cherries on the palate. Not very tannic and only a bit of tartness. One website suggests pairing it with cheeses from Brie to Gouda (I would lean toward the hard cheeses like Gouda and Cheddar).

As I mentioned last year (http://www.wines.com/ubb2/Forum13/HTML/000487.html), the Ripasso goes for $13 around here and still does both in Maine and NH. Can't see why the journeyman version would be $2 more.

It could be the taxes, IK. Also, I saw it on the Internet for $12.49 to $15.00 so I don't know exactly what the retail price is in Fayetteville.
