2000 Van Roekel, "A Boire", Temecula, Chardonnay ($8.95). Picked this up on our February visit to the Temecula Valley. It is most unusual to find a interesting native wine, much less a chardonnay, at this price. The Van Roekel folks saved some money by not even subjecting it to the toasted oak sawdust teabag treatment. It is 100% stainless steel. It also has 1% residual sugar (RS). This makes it an excellent aperitif wine. It also goes with any food you would have with a Riesling Kabinett. It is necessary to get this wine directly from the winery. Visit them on your next trip to Southern California or call 909-699-6961 or fax 909-699-3213. They will ship to sixteen different states including Maine!
