Stopped by my favorite wine shop in San Diego on the way north and John put together a case of frenchies to keep my mind occupied. The P/Q on these babies was , on the whole, tremendous.Instead of sluping , inhaling, and chugga-luggin` as usual, I did take time to make a few notes. 98 Ch de la Neglt.Brite ruby with smoke, berries, cherries, and some black fruit nuances.Marvy entry, and a solid finish. 7.99 35% old vine carignan,25% grenache noir, 25% alicante bouchet, 10% tempranillo, and 5% syrah.Linne Colado 98 Willow Red Templeton 12.99 ( O.K.a Calif mungst the group ) An absolutely awesome red. No idear whas be in it , but one tasty hummer. Made by sons of long-time grape-growers in San Luis county, the Smith and Trevison families.Only 240 or so cases. 98 Ch de Valcombe 10.99 Grenache and Syrah. From Nimes west of the Rhone.Opaque with smoke, black fruit and some tannins on the finish.Have no earthly where be Nimes but this is more like a young Gigondas. Huge Wine. Unfiltered and unfined. More stuffin than`ll be in my bird Thanksgiving. Mas des Bressades. Another Nimes. Syrah and Grenache. Read the above, picture ditto marks and you gots it.99 Ch. Grande Cassagne. 6.99 Outstanding. Grenache and Syrah. 98 Ch des Tours Cotes du Rhone 10.99. Again. A marvelous bottle. Lost my tasters on the last 2 but know I enjered them dudes. TTTTTTThat`s all folk

WW, Nimes is a small town in the south of France, just soutwest of the Rhone, in the Languedoc. The wines from there share many of the characteristics of those from the southern Rhone, but IMHO frequently have more pronounced tannins. They're bargains, in our way of thinking.
