I'm interested in trying a Beaujolais from Flurie, but don't want to spend a great deal. Can anyone recommend a good label?

Fleurie is normally available in the $10-$12 range, less when on sale. The most common label found in Texas is Georges Duboeuf. It CAN be OK, but I've not tried it in a few years now. Suggest you give it a shot, since the price is quite modest.

A Fleurie I've liked in the past is from Domaine du Vissoux-- Fleurie Les Garants but it runs about $20-$25 and may be more difficult to find than the one recommended by Hotwine.

The '02 by GDB was excellent and sold for around $11. Ran though two or three boxes of it. There still should be some around. '03 was a hit and miss year for all Beaujolais. Much got overripe from the heat. Some, smart producers picked early.

I second the Domaine du Vissoux. A really great domain for beaujolais (and even a white beaujolais, which I recently tried in a wine bar near me; interesting).

What do you think about a 2003 brouilly? I have seen some bottles of Chateau de la Chaize, but they seem to be quite a bit more expensive than the beaujolais-villages.

Be careful of the '03s. That was the hot year, remember.

The Chateau de la Chaize is usually quite good but again be wary of 2003 vintage.
