I am going to a dinner where they will be serving Lassagna, Garlic bread, and Salad. I would like to know of an impressive wine that would impress an Italian/German with a passion for wines.

It depends on how much you're willing to spend.
First, is this dinner date at a restaurant, for which you will be purchasing the wine with dinner? Or is it a private dinner party, for which you are to provide the wine? Keep in mind that restaurant prices are 2 to 3 times normal off-the-shelf retail prices for wine, so you'll get a lot more bang for your buck if it's a private dinner party and you provide the wine.
Second, what's your price limit?
