Domaine la Soumade, Cotes du Rhone Villages, Rasteau, 1998

Deep purple color, restrained nose of spice and dark fruit, Nicely balanced berry and spice flavors with a big oaky finish. Paired well with steaks off the grill on this unseasonably warm CA afternoon. Ideally, I would have cellared this a few more years. A good example of the Villages designation being worth a couple of bucks more. I paid $11.99.
