These wines were opened about 6 hours ago. Both are out of magnums. Neither have been decanted.

Chateau La nerthe '98 Cuvee Des Cadettes

Nose of red fruit with a touch of both blue fruit and uncooked pork fat, but just a touch of each. The wine is big on the palate; very mouthfilling. Lots of red fruit; still has a touch of blueberry and a touch of something like rainy earth. Great acidity and a lengthy finish.

Domaine Pagau '00, Cuvee da Capo

The nose on this has much more blue fruit, a bit of bacon grease, and small amounts of red fruit. Great earthy tones on the palate blended with red and blue fruit. Great mouthfeel; near perfect acid balance. The tannins need a few more years to soften, but this wine has 15 - 20+ years ahead of it. Unbelievable concentration of fruit. Just a great wine.

As I keep drinking these, I really can't tell which one I like better. At first, I thought it was obvious, the Pegau. And maybe at first, it was better. Now, I can't tell. Both different and great at the same time.

It must be time for bed...

Both are lovely wines. I give the nod to the Pegau.
