Killer Syrah from a name you may know.......

Okay, I did not want to like this wine since it is made by one of them UC Davis types....... ;-) This is the same Carole Meredith who has been doing terrific genetics work on grapevines, their origin, etc. The wine? It IS a dandy...

1998 Lagier Meredith, Syrah, Mount Veeder, Napa Valley, California, $50, 50 cases. Purple/inky black in the glass. Quite aromatic, with wild berries and white pepper spice. Very elegant and balanced on the entry, this wine is packed with layers of sweet black fruit, chocolate, coffee, peppery nuances and tannins that caress the tongue. The fruity aftertaste seems to linger forever. 92/89.

Interesting post, Bucko! I love the Mt. Veeder appelation generally, but was a bit concerned that 98 would be difficult for the cooler mountain fruit. Apparently not!
