Mystery solved, I think! I fished the bottle out of the recycling barrel and there, on the label, in letters far too small and faint for these 51-year-old eyes to read in the store was this: "Subtle spicy oak underpins the flavorsome cool climate Chardonnay fruit in this elegant, dry wine." Betcha that sour taste I disliked was the oak. I'm still trying to figure out how oak tastes, but I think I had a good lesson with this wine. Just out of curiousity I picked up a bottle of the SB to taste. I'll let you know.
