'98 Des Tours CDR

Had to pop one of these after reading the recommendation on the CDRV post. Minty notes of bay or cedar dominated along with a hint of garrigues. It seemed like there was some fruit hiding in there somewhere. There was also the occasional medicinal flavor of cough syrup. This may get better with time, but the verdict for now is . . . interesting, but not my cup of tea.

We are talking about the Chateau des Tours CDR, right? I loved this wine! A Rayas property ( I believe ) for 10 bucks. Yes, there is quite a bit of cedar but I thought it had enough fruit to balance it out. I haven't experienced any medicinal qualities, but we all have different palates. It is the very same, bargain basement Rayas. I really am of two minds on this wine. It seemed like there was some fruit that wasn't showing itself. I have experienced this shy fruit a couple of times this winter. It's been exceptionally cold here and my cellar has been between 45 and 50 F for a couple of months now. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to start pulling all reds, including the young and boisterous ones, a day or two before service. I have been operating on a couple hours and it might not be enough.

Had the second half of the bottle last night and the mid palate fruit showed up. Much, much better.

ddf, that be the reason i moved to the valley ub de sun. You've hit on the answer. let them puppies sit out a day or three. And give'em a couple hours to get their breath. WW

I enjoy my Des Tours at around 62 degrees.... I have a couple of cases of this one!
