Mention 2007 Rhone wines around “wine people” and you may not ever get to the end of the conversation. It’s being called the best vintage ever by some folks and from our early tastings of the lesser pedigree Cotes du Rhone and the like, we agree that the vintage shows great promise and quite simply brings about excitement for upcoming releases. The 2007 vintage (with a focus on Chateauneuf-du-Pape) may best be described by Robert Parker, Jr. in the October issue of the Wine Advocate who says:

“Throughout the Southern Rhone, 2007 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in my thirty years working in that region…. Nearly every producer has attained largely unprecedented levels of quality. Moreover, the vintage is remarkably consistent from top to bottom…. It is the vintage of my lifetime for this region, and I don’t say that lightly."

I've purchased some Beaucastels from JJ Buckley in pre-arrival to the tune of $74.99 for 750ml and $139 for the mags. Got some of each. They are currently oversold though.

Not the greatest or worst of pricing from what I've found. In this climate I'd be more concerned with the quality of the retailer than a few bucks. i.e. CWC and WB.WW
