I have a bottle (actually it is my girlfriends) of wine which neither of us know anything about and am looking for some help.

The label information is as follows:
Vieux Chateau Cortan
Gran Cru
Pomerol 1970

Mis En Bouteille Au Chateau

We realize it is a 1970 French Wine, but that is about it. Any ideas on possible value or if it is/was any good??

Thanks

If you are taking about Chateau Vieux Certan Pomerol, it is a top notch Bordeaux based on merlot predominantly. Grey matter is a little loose on the 1970 vintage. If all is well with it, you could have a fantastic experiance waiting for you and your girlfriend.

1970 was an excellent year in Bordeaux and the better wines can still be terrific if they have been properly stored. I recently had both the '70 Cos D'Estournel and the '70 Lynch-Bages courtesy of a very good friend. Both were in great shape and the Lynch, in particular, could have gone another few years. I don't know how well the '70 Pomerols are holding up, but I'd guess, assuming good storage, that you've got a tasty bottle. Cheers!
