2004 Rosenblum "Heritage Clones" Peite Sirah

Popped this while at the beach this weekend. Very concentrated, elegant Petite Sirah. Blackberry, licorice, coffee and dark chocolate flavors. Full bodied with an oily mouthfeel and a very long finish. Also ready to do now with just enough fine tannins on the mid palate and finish to maintain structure. The flavors are a wee bit cloying and I didn't think it paired well with the garlic and cracked black pepper rubbed filet mignon we had, yet I was out voted on this by Eileen and friend Ann...what do I know? Anyway, a very nice stand alone drink for me or paired with the right cheese. 15.4% Alc/vol. $20

Are you sure it wasn't a Late Harvest PS?

Never had a Late Harvest PS. Wouldn't that be a sweet wine? Actually, I've never had a late harvest wine that was fermented to dry. Is that even possible without adding acid or something else to balance out the wine and keep the fermentation process evolving? And what would be the reason for doing this? Kinda Amarone-ish?

From the description, the wine sounds like a dry PS. Was the wine purchased in MD? I'd like to taste this.

One of the shop-owners in town has a collection of PS that dates back to the early 70s. I clearly don't have the experience with this varietal but love the wines every time I taste them.

Anyway, would love to hear from you guys on this topic.

Look for "R" Petite Sirah from Clarksburg, California. Jeff Runquist is the winemaker. Very good IMHO although I am also lacking much experience with the varietal.

Drew, I have seen this wine in my local wine shop. How well do you think a wine like this ages?

Me thinks this bottling is a short termer as it seemed ready to go right now.

I agree with Drew. If you can find it buy the 02 David Fulton PS. This sucker mite age past the mark set by Buck-Snort. WW
