Opened this bottle tonight with grilled skirt steak that was marinated for 24 hours. Seared it on a very hot grill, then served with fresh, spicy, homemade Mexican fixins (pico, guac, beans, tortillas, etc.) that would make any true Texan proud.

I have had this wine a few times at high end steak joints when out with clients. I have to admit that it was one of the cheapest wines on the list, but I did not order it for that reason at all, and had to be careful to make sure said clients tasted it before they saw the meager price. It has consistently been one that tastes every bit as good as wines costing triple the price (yes, triple).

Anyway, back to tonight's bottle. I had high expectations when I corked it. I let it breathe for about 20 minutes while I was outside doing the primitive "man grilling animal on fire" thing. At first it had that great nose of dark fruit, black cherries and a touch of blueberry. However, the initial thirty minutes left me wondering...

After about 45 minutes all the good stuff started happening. Luscious fruit, spice, and a finish that just lasts forever. The type of wine that makes your lips smack and smile as you remember the terrific treat you just enjoyed. I bought a case of this wine, I should have bought three.

Best sub 20 dollar bottle of wine I have ever had the pleasure of tasting, without exception.

I noticed that Wine Spectator gave this wine a 92 (those bastards, why couldn't they keep a secret?). I bought if for 18 dollars a bottle.

Mark
