The second German red wine in the tasting at Luigi's Restaurant. Blend of Portugieser and Saint Laurent. Weingut Hirschhof, Rheinhessen, Germany

Saint Laurent is a hybrid of Pinot Noir and another unknown grape variety. The Cuvee is described in the notes as a mild red with cherry aromas and well integrated acidity making it very easy on the palate.

To me it was just an okay wine and I prefered the Blauer Portugieser, but another couple at the tasting definitely prefered this wine. Both wines were being sold in the restaurant that evening for $6.50 for a glass and $23.00 for a bottle (this restaurant tends to mark up their wines quite a bit--maybe by double retail prices.)
