Restaurant week so went out for dinner with a bunch of friends to a Southwestern restaurant in Boston called Masa. Without disrespecting the place (which I though was nice and pleasant), they don't make Southwestern food like they do in the Southwest (jsut like they don't do good New England clam chowder in Montana so no disrespect here).

Friends don't drink wine so we ordered a bottle of the 2005 eroica. As always a pleasant bottle but this one did not appear to be their best in the last few years. Good nose of white peach and honey, crisp and smooth on the mouth, some floral hints and a good balance and acidity.

For the price, I can buy better German Rieslings. Eroica has been disappointing.

You are right. For around $10 there is Dr L and R from Kesseler, and just a bit north is Toni Jost and Leitz and all four of these are better. Masa had a very limited wine list and my friends wanted product of USA.
