I had dinner at a restaurant here in Atlanta the other night and we had a fine Reisling which I believe the server said was named Gundrum, or something thereabout. We can't find it anywhere locally and assume it was shipped to the restaurant for their use.

If anyone has any information on this please pass it along!!

Might that have been a Gunderloch Rheinhessen Riesling? Those are very nice indeed, and depending on the style, probably rather pricey in a restaurant setting.

Actually I found the winery, Louis Guntrum, but I can't find a place locally that I can buy it by the bottle.

As for price, I have no clue how much it is by the bottle, but it was $10 a glass at the restaurant. Well worth it, imo. It was a Riesling, but I'm not sure what year. Guess I have to go back and have some more, get a glimpse of the bottle. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/wink.gif[/img]

Louis Guntrum is one of the larger producers in the Rheinhessen, a more commercial region of Germany. If you liked this wine, try some from Mosel/Saar/Ruwer region, arguably the best region in Germany.

Hotwine recommended a very nice producer, Gunderloch. One of my favorites is JJ Prum.

Bucko is right on, as usual. My own taste in German wines migrated from the Rheingau in the 70's when I lived there to the Rheinhesse in the '80's to the Mosel, where it has been happily ensconced near Bernkastel for at least a decade.
Jill, please do try one of the wines from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. Make it a Spatlese or Auslese, and enjoy it well-chilled with a fresh green salad and mild (non-spicey) dish of chicken, or a pasta-and-grilled-chicken salad. Your palate might also migrate to the Mosel.

Thank you both for the information. I will try some of the types of wine you suggested. I can't really find a place to get the Guntrum here in Atlanta yet, but I'm sure it's bound to be out there somewhere. Unfortunately I realized that I did not get the date or the exact type off the bottle at the restaurant [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/frown.gif[/img] All I know is that it was a Riesling.
