We're planning a mardi gras dinner including a first course of shrimp remoulade and main course of shrimp and sausage gumbo . . . any suggestions of what wine would go well with the gumbo?

Hi Witz, and welcome to the Wine Board. I would go with Marietta Old Vines Red, Lot 28.

Hi EWitz, and welcome to the board. You can't go wrong with any of the 1999 Zinfandels that are widely available now. They do a real number to the Cha-Cha of Creole. WW

As the former Sommelier / Beverage Director of one of N'Awlins' oldest joints, I've got to say that if the temperature in your locale is above 65F I would go with the darkest, spiciest ROSE you can find (like a Cerasuolo Montepulciano d'Abruzzo or one of the Syrah / Zin based ones out of the Central Coast), ice cold. If you live in the frozen north, go with a Zin or other aromatic varietal. But the truly best solution would be some nice Belgian Beer....
