2001 Messmer Burrweiler Schlossgarten Spatburgunder Weissherbst Auslese

The clarity and purity of Pinot Noir....oh my god....my knees are week.......I was told that this had was a 120 oechsle or about a Brix of 27.3.

This has the thickness of Icewine but unlike icewine, this one is eminently more pure, more subtle, more elegant, the essence of Pinot Noir grown in Germany (i.e. non of the earthiness of a burgundy...just pure PN in GRMY)....I can't believe this wine....

This is a rose and the wine looks like pail golden rose. Nose of blueberry and the lightest of honey. The mouthfeel is full and supple, and never makes you feel thirsty after. Palate of blueberry, honey and the middle, this is where you sense the elegance of the wine and the purity of the Pinot Noir. It's hard to explain. You know its Pinot Right away but never like one that you have tasted before. The end is lightly sweet, with a bit of minerality and a good long finish. Ther persistence of the light sweetness is very long. Great acidity in the background to clean things up, wine is completely balanced and plain incredible.....I was actually worried at first as there was some mold on the top of the cork and the cork as it pulled up showed some discoloration. Nothing apparently wrong with the wine though...just an incredible 1/2 bottle.

I ordered one case about 6 months ago. $33 by the 375 mL bottle. Not sure if anyone can source but if you can,.....do the right thing and buy a few.......ordering next years for sure!
