Yep! If you've got 'em. Prosecco is fun stuff.

Thanks for the link to the article. Guess I'll have to try Prosecco.

For those of us who are heathen, waiting for conversion: What's a good, easy-to-find starter brand?

If you can find them: Ombra and Bellenda--both Brut style, and I am sure Roberto has a few favorites.

This country, at times, seems awash with cheap champagne served at celebrations, weddings, etc.

I wonder why prosecco and cava have not caught on more, as their P/Q ratio seems very high in comparison. I can't recall a cava that I didn't like, and only 1 prosecco (don't remember the name) failed to excite me. I know people rightly have an affinity for good champagne, but at the lower price points, prosecco and cava are for me!

The answer to your question lies with the caterers and establishments that do weddings, et al. They get the crummiest sparkling wines for two reasons: they make a bundle of money on them, and their customers do not complain about the situation.

I will never understand why people do not demand what they want for their weddings and other major celebrati instead of allowing a suited wedding planner or catering manager with snooty attitude tell them what they will be forced to pay for.

Most of the wedding receptions that I have worked have been mid-sized to large garden type affairs for the well-to-do. Typically these people prefer to pick out their own wines. You would not believe ( or maybe you would) the cheap stuff that these people buy and want served. They certainly can afford better if they wanted to have it. They either don't know better or don't seem to care.
