1997 Montecillo, Reserva, Rioja, Spain, $17. This is a mouthful of wine that paired well with pepper crusted beef. Full of red cherries, dried cherries, berries, oak and herbs, the tannins are very manageable now. Black pepper weaves its way through the wine, adding further complexity. Good value. 100% Tempranillo. 89/91.

The Montecillo Reserva is consistently a very nice Rioja, to be enjoyed with quality Mexican fare....cabrito comes to mind, but since I don't know any goat ranchers, I sometimes serve it with BEEF and chicken fajitas. Salut!

We have some dandy purveyors of the horned beast here in the valley that are killers, and on Sat and Sun morns serve the greatest of all hangovers cures, Menudo. WW Which reminds me, I'm taking my CB, Grandaughter, her hubby AND my GREAT-GRANDSON to Rocky Point Tomorrow morn for 5 days. Turducken, Macadamia infused Yam pie, Garlic mashers, Green bean and onion ring casserole, and for the chef, the Weener his-very-own self, a breakfast on the beach of 4 Tequila Sunrises and a marvelous Shrimp Omelette. Eat-cher-heart-out Hotsie. WW

Is that California Central Coast? I see where turducken is no longer a wines.com secret. John Madden discussed it and showed it on Monday night football.

John's 17 years late. I've been ordering one for Thanksgiving and Christmas since I ran into them on a New Years sojourn to the Sugar Bowl and New Orleans. Love them suckers. Rocky Point ( Puerto Penasco ) is on the Sea of Cortez ( Gulf of Calif ) less than 300 miles from Phoenix. Gorgeous Beach, great weather, one of the great shrimp hatcheries in the U.S. and now some blossoming fine restaurants. Go on the map due so of Phoenix to Gila Bend and continue So. till you hit water. WW
