I need help. I really don't know wine and don't drink it often but I want to buy a nice bottle for a friend who does. He loves to cook and his favorite meal is a medium rare steak. These are the things he says about wine he likes: "dry, oaky, rich, and having substance". It's a going away present and I would really like to surprise him with something good he would enjoy. Any suggestions?

Nothing goes better with a nice big, unadorned steak than a Cabernet Sauvignon. There are many, many really good ones in all price ranges at your local wine shop.

Be sure to tell the retailer that the wine must be ready for immediate consumption. Many cabernets need to be aged from one to ten years after purchase.
