As I keep learning more about different wines, I make little "discoveries" that kind of put some things into context. Off and on over the years I had been drinking various vintages of the Marqués de Cáceres white wine. It's a fairly ordinary wine, but the other day I had some of it, and the racy taste reminded me of...sauvignon blanc (though not complex as most SBs I've had). From the MdC website I learned that the wine is made from 100% viura.

Does anyone know much about this grape? I'm not finding much of substance on the internet, and it barely gets a mention in the various wine books I've amassed. Perhaps it goes by another name?

Are there any other wine made with viura that are worth trying? From what I've read so far, the viura is considered a mediocre grape.

It's also known as Macabeo in Spain. It makes a nice light acid wine that should be drunk young.

Aha! I've seen references to macabeo, but didn't know it's the same as viura. That really helps--thanks!
