1996 Gandia, Hoya de Cadenas, Reserva ($8 Is-Wine). Very nice medium bodied wine with typical tempranillo characteristics of acid and tannin ahead of the fruit. Gives the impression that it will age for awhile, until you realize that in a few years you will just have acid and tannin. Anyhow, it is just about perfect right now. You don't even notice the 12 months it spent oak barrels. Matched very nicely with reheated stuffed peppers and corn on the cob. A terrific value.

Popped another of these tonight with ham loaf. Still very nice. Also, have seen it all over these days. Distributor must have a wide reach.

I've seen this in many places, too, and also have been impressed, though I must say I DO notice the time it spent in oak! In this case, however, it doesn't bother me.

The '97 is out, though I haven't tried it yet.

Now that it is all over the place, we have stopped carrying it. The pallet-buying, price wars have begun...

Picked up a '98 for $7 last night at local superette to have with mac & cheese. It was cooked to a turn. Blah!
