My wife and I are planning on having a wine tasting party and we wanted to focus on Finger Lakes Region wines. We are having 4 other couples over. We wanted a couple varities of wines, and hors d'oeuvres/apetizers. We want to keep the cost reasonable. Does anyone have suggestions for wines and foods? Thank you very much.

Hi Robert, and welcome to the Wine Board. First, some ground rules. We prefer that you limit your postings to one per question. You a can ask as many questions in as many postings as you like, and we will do our best to get you answers. Also it would be very helpful to at least know your city and state so we could recommend specific wine stores and regional finger foods. Now, if you will scroll down to bottom of the board to Wine Country Touring, and go back 100 days; you will find a posting titled Finger Lakes, dated 6/16/00. Several wineries are recommended for their riesling, chardonnay, gewurtztraminer, cabernet franc, and merlot. The riesling, gewurtz, and cab franc are the best food wines in this group, and the posting gives you several choices of sources for them.

Robert,

What Innkeeper means is that it is best to ask your question only in one forum, so we are not duplicating questions/answers in multiple places. You can make as many postings as you like, i.e. on different subjects. Sometimes the title you give your posting will attract a qualified person to look at it and respond (although we try to respond to all postings).

I might suggest calling McGregor Vineyards in the Finger Lake Region and asking them for advice [tel. (800) 272-0192]. They offer many award-winning wines, including some rare wines. Tell them Jackie at wines.com sent you. They used to be customers of ours but have since moved their web site to this obscure URL:
http://www.linkny.com/~mcg/mcg_frames.html

My apologies for the multiple posting. I put the first request in the Novice section, and was adviced to post in the Food/Wine section. Please excuse a newbie. Note has been taken for future postings. Thanks for the help.

Robert,

No apology needed. We're glad you're here!

Innkeeper asked if you would modify your profile (there is a link to do this at the top of the page -- upper right hand corner) to display your city and state. Wine distribution is so different from place to place in the U.S. that it is often helpful to know where people are located, in order to talk about wines that are available in that area.

Anyway, welcome to the board. We look forward to many more conversations.

Jackie
