OK, so perhaps one shouldn't place too much expectation on a $10 wine, but for crying out loud -- at least it should taste like the varietal. This one would pass for a New World Merlot. Not an unpleasant drink, don't get me wrong -- Anne summed it up with the following: "It tastes like wine." It does not, however, taste like Tempranillo. Alc. 13.5%.

Dan, maybe you should persuade Anne to post some notes of her own. It would be interesteing to get both of your perspectives on the wines.

You know, it's funny you say that. I've often tried to get her to post some comments, but she doesn't really get into the analysis side of things. Though she tends to be accurate, witty, and often amusing in her descriptions, more frequently, when prodded, I'll get an "I like it" or "Not good" and that'll be about it. Or, like on this one, some variant of "It tastes like wine." Other times, she'll be more verbose. When she is, I try to post her thoughts with mine to provide both takes. Generally speaking, on most of my notes I'll indicate what she thought about it and/or if we differ, as we have on some Pinot Noir lately, I'll post her thoughts.

I'll see if I can't get her to open up on here from time to time. She has a very good palate, and I wish I had her sensory memory.
