A friend has a grandchild due in March. She wants to buy a port as a gift that the baby will be able to enjoy on her 21st birthday. Any suggestions on the purchase of a port now to be enjoyed in 21 years? Thanks for the help.

Look for an Oporto from the '97 vintage from any on the big houses, e.g. Warre, Dow, etc. If just says Port, it is not a Vintage Port, and may not go the distance.

2000 vintage ports may be slightly better than the '97s and prices have remiained about the same or even come down in a few cases.
