Sherry is certainly a wonderful "sticky" (fortified wine). We frequently use it as an aperitif, and Harvey's Bristol Creme is really tough to beat for that purpose. But for an after-dinner drink, we would go with a Port or the coffee w/Cointreau. "Rusty Nails" and "Stingers" also have their uses after dinner, but we reserve those for the occasions when we must sit through a long presentation following a business dinner.
(And thankfully, we rarely attend such functions any more.)
