I don't remember the exact wine, but I had a friend in the mid 60's who used to come over occasionally after work. Before we reached the house we used to stop at a shop which had a very good supply of Bordeaux, and we'd go in and pick up about 3 or 4 bottles recommended by the owner. All the wines were at or under $10, and they were a revelation because before we first went into that shop we'd usually pick up some of the usual suspects back then - Bolla, Blue Nun, Lambrusco, etc. I lagged after we lost touch in the late 60's, but when I was in the Anchorage Restaurant in Milwaukee in 1973, it was suggested we have a Mondavi Fume Blanc with the fish we were having, and that rekindled the interest, which hasn't lagged since - just ask cg.
