I think it's par for the course on the 'net bulletin boards. People come on and want a specific bit of information given promptly, then they're gone. It's not that they don't check back for a response, I think they just don't know etiquette -- that it's appropriate to return and thank someone for providing the information.

At times, perhaps, someone may feel "talked down to" and leave in a snit, but frankly this is one of the most polite boards I've ever been on. People around here are very kind. Case in point, last week someone came on and the question basically said, "I have a newfound love of wine, but I haven't tasted any that I've liked yet." Even though that statement would be an easy target for a cutting response, it was left alone.

What is true is that the board numbers are inflated to reflect a total number of users that is far greater than the regular posters, because of the phenomenon discussed above. There are probably only 30 users that are active in a true sense, and about a dozen more that have been on-and-off for a long time.

But, that's the thing -- for every 10 or 20 people who come on here and ask a question, get a response, and leave, there is always that one person who returns to become a regular poster.
