Just had a wake-up call on why the great musicians always mesh. Today seems like musicians, like atheletes, do their job and watch the star perform. Back in the ole' days when a group of great players got together the joy they felt in playing reflected in the music. Each played their patooties off at all times and inspired the whole group to greater heights. A prime example is Cannonball Adderleys' "Know What I Mean" CD. Backed by none other than the Great Bill Evans on piano, and the super rhythm section of the MJQ, Percy Heath on Bass and Connie Kay on Drums this superlative, swinging, killer CD shows all 4 cats reaching back for their reserve. Guess this should go in the Rants....WW
