On Jan 19 I begin a quarterly series for an alumni group to explore the difference between Old World and New World winemaking.

The first class pits Bordeaux and Burgundy reds against Cabernet Sauvignons (and Meritage Blends) and Pinot Noir.

I admit to having curtailed my consumption of New World wines over the past few years, for fear that I might become a stick of wood. I'd love some suggestions of New World reds for the above categories, ones that truly express a difference from "traditional" European styles.
