Hi Georgie-grl. From the dark recesses of memory, German gluwein used a cheap Pinot Noir ... but can't remember what they called it. IK and Wonders, where are you? It was spiced with a gluwein packet (like a tea-bag) or spice stick, but don't know the exact composition - suspect cinnamon and clove. The wine was heated, then the spices were added and the brew was served hot in a mug.

For eggnog, we normally use a shot of bourbon in a mug, add 'nog, and sprinkle nutmeg on the 'nog's surface.
