I don't believe this is true anymore. I have never heard of this, it may have been true in the past.

Currently, they use substances such as benotine (a powdered clay) or egg white to "fine" the wine. Neither are left in the wine. As far as filtration, they use many methods but most are mechanical.

A simple solution would be to buy wines that say "No filtration" "Non Filtre."
