Regarding the "Wine for Dummies" book. Though I think the "For Dummies" series is a bit out of control - the "Wine for Dummies" book is an excellent introductory book to the world of wine and I would highly recommend it. Written in a very down to earth style, it is filled with useful info and all the basics to get you started learning about wine. It has the added advantage of being inexpensive and widely available.
