GAD, You would have liked where my wife grew up out in the Berkshires. On her folks property was a huge maple that was a witness tree and shows up on town maps as far back as 1731. Her dad used to be able to get 14 sap buckets around it. Unfortunately, the idiots who bought the property from my mother-in-law a few years ago cut the tree down. There was no reason to do so because this is a 20+ acre property and the tree was just in from the edge of the land about 100 yards back from the street.
