Jannete you know enough now to spend a half hour or so wandering around a wine store; so pick up four or so bottles split between white and red, from different regions and countries. Diversity will keep you more interested in wines than specialization. The book you picked up (Wine For Dummies) is excellent and will tell you the same thing.
