how to keep it still fresh????

I would just like to know, since I'm not an expert in wines and would like to know a little info about it, how will you store the wine after it has been opened. 'Cause i would really like to enjoy it for the next day or would like to save it for another gathering or so and it will be such a waste to just throw it away. thanks...
