Well, cutting myself off the source could be a tad bit difficult, since it's a rather popular (mis)conception here in Sweden [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img].

My own theory, btw, is that in mixing red and white wines, there is simply usually more bottles being drunk from and thus more alcohol. Thus the myth is born.
