You'll probably need to try several different types of German white wines (usually Rieslings) to find the one that matches your description. The sweetest are dessert wines, made from grapes that have become overripe on the vines and even nipped by frost. Suggest you read up on the subject in the forum on this board entitled Rieslings. The Beerenauslese (BA) and Trochenbeerenauslese (Tba) are the dessert wines. Those tend to be quite expensive. An inexpensive selection of dinner wines is currently available from Schmitt-Sohn in the form of a four-bottle set of 375 ml bottles; the set includes simple Mosel-Sahr-Ruwer (MSR) Riesling and Kabinett (both dry), Spatlese (with a very slight sweetness, and Auslese (with a bit more sweetness). The set is being sold at Sam's Warehouse Clubs for about $7.99. If what you had is even sweeter than the Auslese, then you probably had either the BA or Tba, and can use that information to search your retailer's shelves.
