Cooperativa Vinicola Aurora is the giant of Brazilian winemaking. Everything about it is superlative: it is the sector's largest cooperative in South America with about 1500 members and has the biggest production of wines. Over 40 million litres are produced annually, representing 40 per cent of the domestic market's quality wines (ie those produced from vitis vinifera). It is efficiently managed and equipped with modern technology to produce wines of all types, both red and white, in ranges destined not only for the upper end of the market but also for everyday drinking. The most important products are marketed under the name Cooperativa Aurora and are obtained from international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Sauvignon. The Cooperative successfully exports its wines to the United States under the Marcus James label. They are all made but with rather high residual sugar levels.
